“Who did you light a candle for?”
As a host, you create a space for mourning and remembrance for people who miss their loved ones during the darker days of the year. It can mean so much: lighting a candle, writing on a ribbon, and offering kind words.
What you’ll do:
• Be present at the kas with another volunteer for one or two shifts.
• Refill candles and cut ribbons.
• Welcome visitors, answer questions, and guide people as needed.
• Offer a listening ear if someone wants to talk – even a brief conversation is greatly appreciated.
• Keep the kas tidy and organized.
Practical info:
• Choose a shift from 12:00 – 16:00 or 16:00 – 20:00.
• The kas is non-religious and open to everyone.
• During your shift, focus on the visitors; phones are put aside.
When: In the last two weeks of the year.
Why join?
You help people feel seen and heard, create space for both mourning and celebrating life, and contribute to a warm, human connection in the community.
