Starting December 5th, Hushu House will open in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Hushu means: Help Us Help U. This is a place where people without residence papers can receive information and support. The Red Cross Amsterdam-Amstelland plays a coordinating role in this. Various organizations in Amsterdam Zuidoost collaborate to warmly welcome these individuals, listen to their stories, and answer their questions. They also provide support and refer them to other organizations if needed. Hushu House also offers warm showers, a place to wash clothes, rest areas, and courses. Do you enjoy being the first person to welcome visitors and are you skilled at de-escalating situations and confident enough to intervene proactively in challenging circumstances? Then is the Hushu team looking for you!
What Will You Do?
● Welcome people to the location.
● De-escalating challenging situations.
● Taking proactive action in case of an emergency.
● Listen to visitors at Hushu House.
● Direct help requests to partners or other volunteers.
● Assist with services, such as making beds or helping with the washing machine.
● Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and snacks.
● Ensure the location remains clean and tidy.
● Create a friendly and trusted atmosphere.
What Do You Bring?
● Proficiency in English. Knowledge of another language, such as Dutch, Arabic, Farsi, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Twi, or Tigrinya, is helpful.
● Good communication skills and an open attitude.
● Enjoy working with people from diverse cultures and handle cultural differences well.
● Maintain calm and act effectively in tense situations.
● Available for at least one half-day (4 hours) per week for a minimum of one year.
