The Afvalpaleis is a place to experience sustainability. No complicated stories, no expensive systems, but simple everyday tips and examples that can easily be applied. These tips can help to save money, but are also environment-friendly. As the Afvalpaleis we offer workshops, repaircafes and consultation hours on sustainability, but we also have a giveaway shop to reuse as much as possible. For a lot of people sustainability is something distant and unfamiliar, something for people with a lot of money. We are an accessible space in which everyone can feel welcome.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
You are the host/hostess of the Afvalpaleis. You inform people about sustainability and all of the activities that we host. You answer people’s questions, you serve coffee and tea, you sort paraphernalia that are brought in and you help with other tasks in the giveaway shop.

WHAT TYPE OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE NEEDED?
You are a social being and like to be surrounded by all sorts of people. You enjoy having conversations with visitors, explain our project to others, and inform them about our activities. You prioritize sustainability and reuse! You are not trained but you are guided, and you get educated on our work, objectives and activities.

WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?
Lots of thankful people, you are the first to have a look at reusable things that are brought in for our giveaway store, you get to participate in our workshops.

WHAT IS THE ADDED VALUE OF THIS VOLUNTEER WORK?
You help people become aware of subjects on sustainability and you help reduce waste. You help people that live in poverty, but also help tackle loneliness.

WORKING HOURS
One or two shifts from Wednesday to Saturday, from 11am to 2:30 pm or from 2pm to 5:30 pm.
