Cooking with meaning – become a cooking volunteer (incl. kashrut training)

Joods Hospice Immanuel is a house full of love, light, and life. A place of calm, attention, and humanity, where simply being present can make a meaningful difference.

🤍 WHAT WILL YOU DO?

As a cooking volunteer at Joods Hospice Immanuel, you contribute to a warm and homely environment.

Food plays a sensitive and meaningful role in a hospice. It can offer comfort, evoke memories, and create small moments of joy and connection. We are known for our homemade dishes—such as our chicken soup—which truly means something to many people.

You help think about the menu and (partly) prepare the planning for the upcoming week
You organize or prepare the groceries and keep track of what is needed
You work closely with the coordinator and align on daily needs
You prepare simple, fresh meals for residents and sometimes for their loved ones or volunteers
You take into account personal preferences, dietary needs, and Jewish kashrut (dietary laws)
We work with two kitchens (dairy and meat) and cook in the meat kitchen; once a week we prepare fully kosher meals
You help maintain a clean, welcoming kitchen environment
If you enjoy improving processes, there is room to contribute ideas around cooking, purchasing, and workflow

You will receive a course on kashrut (what is important and what to consider) as well as a course on taste and nutrition in the palliative phase. There is also plenty of room for your own creativity in the kitchen.

This role is not just about cooking—it’s about care and connection through food.

You will be well supported and never on your own—we do this together.

Good to know: English-speaking volunteers are very welcome for this role.
