Are you fascinated by the tv programme Spoorloos (Without a Trace)? Would you like to put your investigative skills to meaningful use and help reunite families?

There is something incredibly rewarding about piecing together a story, following the clues, and ultimately helping bring people back together.
English-speaking volunteers are very welcome to apply as well!
Why this work matters
We can perhaps all imagine, at least to some extent, what it must be like for a parent not to know what happened to their child. Or for someone not to know who their biological parents are, while wondering whether their appearance, personality, or other characteristics come from them.
For many of us, knowing where we come from is something we simply take for granted. For people who are missing parts of their family history, those unanswered questions can stay with them for years.
When we see the sense of peace and connection that can follow a successful match and reunion, we are reminded why this work matters.
What does the work involve?

What would you actually do?
There is quite a bit of detective work involved before a reunion can happen. As a volunteer, you might help with things like:
• Gathering and analysing information
• Talking to clients and conducting interviews
• Writing and organising case notes and documentation
• Building kinship models
• Keeping case information accurate and up to date
• Helping plan field tracing
• Writing reports and documenting findings
• Following up on leads and keeping track of cases
You’ll get to learn more about family tracing and adoption-related cases, with a particular focus on Bangladesh. You’ll also work with a friendly and diverse team of people who all share the same goal: helping people find answers and reconnect with their families.

What you will learn
Along the way, you’ll gain experience with:
• Family tracing and reunification
• Adoption-related cases
• Adoption- and trauma-sensitive communication
• Investigative research and casework
• Working with sensitive personal information
• The social and cultural context of Bangladesh
We have a monthly online team meeting, and approximately once a quarter we aim to meet in person in Amsterdam. And, of course, there is also our annual gathering – good food and good company included!
Who are we looking for?
You can organise your own time and work from home. However, to make a meaningful contribution, we ask that you are able to dedicate at least a few hours per week. The more time you are able to invest, the more cases we can work on and the greater the chance of achieving successful results.
Some computer skills are helpful, but what matters most is that you:
• Work accurately and systematically
• Have excellent attention to detail
• Enjoy investigative work and following leads
• Are comfortable taking clear and precise notes
• Communicate well with others
• Are curious, patient and willing to learn
Are open to developing an adoption- and trauma-sensitive approach Most when communicating with people involved in our cases.
Most importantly, we’re looking for people who genuinely want to do something meaningful and make a difference in someone’s life.
