Driver / host of our mobile clinic

At Doctors of the World, we help people who have nowhere else to turn for healthcare. In our Mobile Clinics (“Zorgbus”), we hold medical consultations for undocumented individuals, people in need of care, and refugees.

You will pick up the Care Bus from our office in Amsterdam Center and drive it to the location where the consultation is taking place, primarily in Amsterdam or The Hague. Upon arrival, you will prepare the bus for the consultation: start the computers, make the bus ready and presentable, and set up the information board. From that moment, you are also the first point of contact for all patients (and interested passersby). If people are waiting too long, you’ll inform your colleagues. If someone needs encouragement to visit the doctor, you’ll reassure them and give them that final push. Offering a listening ear, showing interest and understanding, are things that come naturally to you. Volunteer doctors also work on the bus. Together with them, you create a welcoming atmosphere for the patients.

Required Skills or Knowledge: You have a valid driver’s license (category B) and driving experience. You are social and can work well with different cultures. You are available for approximately 4 hours every two weeks (shifts can be on different days, and we will schedule them with you). You speak Dutch and/or English. If you happen to speak another language, such as Tigrinya, French, Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, or Portuguese, that would be a great asset, though it’s not required.

What We Offer You: A fun and challenging volunteer role where you can make a difference for people in vulnerable situations. You work when it suits you, as you can sign up for shifts based on your availability. Click here [https://doktersvandewereld.org/de-zorgbus-waar-en-wanneer-te-vinden/] to check when we are holding consultations. You will be supported by a professional and friendly team in an informal organization. Before or after your shift, you are welcome to join us at the office for a cup of coffee or tea, or (on Mondays and Thursdays) for lunch. Your travel expenses will be reimbursed. You can participate in trainings, workshops, staff outings, and other social events.
