Starting December 1, Hushu House will open in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Hushu means: Help Us Help U. This is a place where people with or without residence papers can receive information and support.

The Red Cross Amsterdam-Amstelland plays a coordinating role in this. Various organizations in Amsterdam Zuidoost collaborate to warmly welcome these individuals, listen to their stories, and answer their questions. They also provide support and refer them to other organizations if needed. Hushu House also offers warm showers, a place to wash clothes, rest areas, and courses. Hushu House is open during the day on weekdays.

What Will You Do?

● Providing a listening ear to visitors with a help request.
● Providing information about social and community services for undocumented residents of Amsterdam or residents in a vulnerable position.
● Ensuring a warm handover of the help-seeker to partner organizations.
● Light administrative tasks to maintain the structure of the helpdesk.
What Do You Bring?
● You speak and write in English or Dutch, and preferably a second language such as Arabic, Farsi, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Twi, or Tigrinya.
● You have strong communication skills and can listen without judgment.
● You enjoy working with people from different cultural backgrounds.
● You are willing to help everyone regardless of their religious beliefs, political beliefs, or origin.
● You handle confidential information discreetly.
● You are able to acquire knowledge about aid organizations in Amsterdam.
● You can work to de-escalate tense situations.
● You are available for at least one half-day (4 hours) per week, for a minimum of one year.
