Since December 2024, the Hushu House in Amsterdam-Zuidoost has been open. Hushu stands for: Help Us Help yoU. This is a place where undocumented individuals can receive information and support. The Red Cross Amsterdam-Amstelland plays a coordinating role in this initiative. Various organizations in Amsterdam-Zuidoost collaborate at Hushu House to warmly welcome visitors, listen to their stories, and answer their questions. They also provide support and refer people to other organizations when needed. Additionally,Hushu House offers warm showers, a space to do laundry, a quiet room, and courses. What will you do?
· Welcome visitors to the location.
· Maintain visitor registration (both on paper and online).
· Proactively approach visitors and offer a listening ear.
· Pass on support requests to partner organizations or helpdesk volunteers.
· Assist with tasks such as doing laundry or helping visitors choose clothing.
· Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and snacks.
· Ensure the location remains clean and tidy at all times.
· Create a warm, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere.
What do you bring?
· You speak and write in English (the main language at Hushu House).
· It is helpful if you also speak another language, such as Dutch, Arabic, Farsi, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Twi, or Tigrinya.
· You enjoy working with people from different cultures and communicate well with them.
· You are culturally sensitive.
· You remain calm and act effectively in tense situations.
· You are available for at least one shift (4 hours) per week for a minimum of one year and you live in Amsterdam-Amstelland.
