Join the Motherhood Toy & Kids’ Clothing Swap!

We are Motherhood, a foundation that promotes a more sustainable lifestyle for families – one where we share more, do more together, and find new ways to use what we already have. You may know us from our popular toy and kids’ clothing swap events in Amsterdam, including editions at De Hallen and the NDSM wharf.

And yes – it’s happening again!
On October 31st and November 1st, we’re hosting our next big swap event at De Hallen, and we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our growing team.

How the swap works

Visitors can bring up to 5 items of clothing and/or 5 toys. They hand them in and receive tokens in return, which they can use to pick out other treasures. It’s all about reuse, community, sustainability, and the joy of sharing.

What can you do as a volunteer?

You’ll be part of a fantastic, friendly team – many of whom have been with us for several editions already. As a volunteer, you can help with:

Sorting and displaying incoming items
Receiving items and distributing tokens
Welcoming and assisting visitors
Keeping tables tidy and organized
Helping with event set-up and wrap-up
Supporting our creative family workshops

We always run fun, hands-on workshops alongside the swap. These are centered around reuse and creativity – working with textiles, repairing toys, and using discarded materials to play and create.
The idea? You don’t actually need toys to play!

If you’re creative, enjoy working with families, or just love the spirit of community and sustainability – this is for you.

The practical stuff

You’ll help out for one shift (morning or afternoon)
Have kids? They are welcome to come help or just play
Of course, you can join the swap yourself – there’s always plenty to choose from
Don’t speak Dutch? No problem – English is totally fine
Do you have ideas about how to reach a broader or more diverse audience? We’d love your help with communication and outreach, too

And one more thing:
We’ve just launched a new project – biweekly creative workshops for children at De Hallen on Wednesday afternoons. We’re also looking for friendly volunteers to help out occasionally with those sessions!
