Looking for a way to transmit your coding skills? Join HYF and help people with refugee backgrounds gain the necessary skills to find a job as web developers in the NL. We’re a non-profit, free program that strives for equal access to jobs and education.

Over 7 months, trainees go through the basics of web development (mainly Javascript) in order to be able to work in frontend as well as backend and full stack. They learn how to work in teams, write clean code and develop soft skills.

There are several tech volunteering opportunities throughout the program. You can review assignments to give trainees personal feedback on their code. You can lead classes to cover key concepts, answer questions and do interactive exercises. You can mentor trainees one-one when they struggle with the program to help them get back on track. You can mentor graduates to help them prepare for job applications: support them on a project, help them develop a solid portfolio, guide them towards what language to learn next, or train them in technical interviews. You can lead the final group projects either as a tech lead or product owner to give them real life experience on how a tech team works.

The positions can be either online or in person. A new cohort starts every two months so starting time is flexible and usually goes over the course of 3-4 weeks.
