Community centre is looking for a Boardmember: a committed, connecting chairperson.
In Stap Verder, newcomers receive Dutch lessons, sewing lessons and handicrafts, and find information in our social, medical and legal consultation hours.

Stap Verder is managed by the ‘Stichting Pastoraal Diaconaal Centrum Bijlmermeer’, a partnership of 6 churches, supported by approximately 40 churches in the area. With sixty volunteers, we receive around 400 visitors per year during more than 2000 conversations; many visitors have an African background. People who are temporarily without a place to stay can shower, do their laundry, cook or pick up a ready-made meal, charge their phone and receive mail.
A paid part-time co-ordinator supervises the work. We strive for inclusivity and diversity in our board and team of volunteers. We consider social involvement and a Christian background to be an important motivation for our work.

Our community centre ‘Stap Verder’ in Amsterdam Zuidoost is about to write a new plan for the future. A large donation has created the opportunity to expand our activities.

We are looking for a chairperson who, from a coaching role, will take our organization into a new phase of our existence. This voluntary position requires one to two half days per week.

The chairperson has the following tasks:
• preparing board meetings: drawing up the agenda and annual agenda;
• chairing board meetings: facilitating input from board members (listening, asking questions);
• facilitating the taking of minutes: explicitly naming decisions and supplementing the report;
• ensuring decision-making and time management;
• communicating the vision of the organization;
• organizing annual contact with the founding churches for substantive and financial accountability.

We are looking for someone with the following competencies:
• active listening;
• good communication;
• assertive and empathetic;
• diplomatic and impartial;
• leadership skills;
• involved in the well-being of the foundation;
• motivating people and promoting team spirit within the board/foundation;
• affinity with diaconal work by Christian churches and communities;
• maintain contacts with diaconal institutions and church boards that support us.

As a volunteer you are eligible for an expense allowance. There is a directors’ liability insurance. A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is requested.
