Host/Hostess

The Rembrandt House Museum offers an experience, bringing you closer to Rembrandt than anywhere else on the globe. Our mission is to ignite a passion for Rembrandt’s life, his masterpieces, and his legacy in visitors from every corner of the world.

As a welcoming host, your role is to warmly greet visitors upon their arrival and ensure they feel at home. You will direct them to the cloakroom for their personal items and distribute audio guides to those interested, offering instructions for use. You’ll inform guests about the tour’s starting location and later gather the audio guides. Additionally, you’ll be the go-to person for information on current and future exhibitions, ready to answer any inquiries about the museum and its displays. When needed, you’ll provide assistance to visitors with disabilities. While you’ll primarily work solo, there will be times when you’ll collaborate with another volunteer host.

We are seeking individuals with experience in service-oriented roles, whether as a volunteer or in hospitality, tourism, retail, or arts and culture. Proficiency in Dutch or English is required, and additional languages like German, French, or Spanish are a plus. Candidates should enjoy assisting others, present a professional appearance, and be able to stand or walk for the duration of a shift. Even during busy times, staying calm is essential. A keen interest in Rembrandt, the seventeenth century, and its art is also desirable. We need flexible candidates, especially those available to work on weekends.

The Rembrandt House Museum offers an inspiring workplace with a dedicated team of volunteers and staff collaborating closely. They provide an introductory program, the opportunity to attend in-house lectures, discounts in the museum shop, and complimentary access to the museum, including some free tickets. For those commuting from outside Amsterdam, the museum provides a public transport reimbursement up to 55 km one way to Amsterdam Central, second class. Additionally, it’s an excellent venue for practicing Dutch if you are in the process of learning the language.

Work shifts are as follows: Morning shift runs from 09:30 to 14:00 hours, Mid-day Shift from 12:00 to 16:30, and Afternoon shift from 14:00 to 18:00 hours. You are required to take at least one shift per week, with the flexibility to select your preferred shifts.

Are you interested in joining us to greet and inspire our visitors? If so, please respond to this job posting.
